Passaġġ

Passaġġ is a 3D temporary installation demarcating the site of the previous Old Abbatoir whilst introducing the coming space it is to host: the Valletta Design Cluster.

The arch, a prominent element within Valletta’s baroque architecture, is here used to represent the capital city, evoking within passers-by a passage through time as they journey beneath the volume overhead. Timber boards are morphed together in a somewhat haphazard manner, representing the past, recent past, present and future in four versions of the arch. These points in time and the events that have defined them, have had and will further influence the design cluster not only within the development of the built fabric itself but also the people who flow through and make use of the space. Six clusters of yellow arches represent the six ares within the proposed cluster building.
